As many of you are still in the midst of winter, and you think about putting your home on the market, I thought I would share a few hints.
- Become your buyer!
- What do you see when you pull up to your home?
- Does the first impression say: this home looks pristine.
(Are the bushes trimmed, the front door freshly painted- the weeds pulled from in between the cracks in the sidewalk?) - Does the front of your home look inviting- pulling the buyer inside?
Now walk through your front door just the way a buyer will
- Is there a light in the entry? ( Is it sparkling clean?) is the entry free of clutter?
- Now that you are in the main part of the home, you want to make sure the floors are in good shape
- rugs cleaned
- walls and moldings, windows and doors all are clean and fresh.
- Is it clean, bright, and uncluttered?
- If you empty all the top shelves ( do this in every closet and cabinet in the whole house)
You have to pack anyway and it makes it seem like you have sooo much storage.

As they walk through your home, can your buyer envision each room for his or her purpose? Is there plenty of room for their belongings? Empty every top shelf ( do this in every cabinet and shelf in the house). You have to pack any way, this will give you a head start. Declutter-Declutter-Declutter!!
The most important thing to remember is: once you decide to put your home on the market, it becomes a house and not your home – (you have to pack anyway, so why not get started early)
Look at your house though buyer’s eyes.
What do you see when you pull up to your house and park your car? Curb appeal is so important. You only get one chance to make a first impression.
Does the front of your home have an inviting and welcoming allure? Are your bushes and other plant life trimmed and tidy? Arrange a few pots of colorful plants and frame the entry way to invite your perspective buyer into their new home.
As you enter, are you greeted with a neutral fresh scent? You want to appeal to all the senses for greatest effect.
Is your paint color neutral so others can visualize their furniture in the house? As you walk from room to room is everything neat and tidy?
Are your kitchen counters clear? Empty every top shelf, every cabinet, every closet, and anyplace that has a top shelf leave empty. After all – you want to give the illusion of more than enough storage for anyone to need.
