Winter Wonder Land

January/February 2025

Every Jan 1st, I always feel a new sense of renewal. It’s like a new beginning- a chance to start fresh. Oh yes, each year we all pledge to eat less, exercise more, lose those few extra pounds… but how about something new- This year, how about a pledge to re-think and rejuvenate! Sarasota has so much to offer to help the process.

People often ask Irv and I: ”What made you come to Sarasota?” The answer for me is easy – It’s all about the Sunshine and the Palm Trees!! The chance to explore and expand my horizons in an area that although the average age in Sarasota is now about 45, the offerings are amazing for all ages.

Sarasota is referred to as a “think and do tank”. From the HUB - a group of 20 something’s, advancing technology; IMG academy becoming a mecca for professional athletes in training for all sports, to the Conference on Positive Aging which is being held right here in Sarasota next month.

As we wonder where the past year has gone to- here are some highlights to look forward to.

Numerous art festivals from Venice to Bradenton are in full swing.

There is some great entertainment coming to Sarasota in the next few months, and many new restaurants have opened despite the 2 hurricanes we experienced this year.

As always know that it is our mission to show you our wonderful bit of Paradise here on the Gulf coast, and to help you find the perfect property, whether it be a vacation home, or permanent relocation. Until then – Enjoy! Leslie

So just remember – Your address starts with us!

PS. Look for us at Tyson’s Corner the Weekend of Feb.22&23 at the Retirement Expo at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. Hope to see you then -

Dear Floridians

We are going to be ok! I have put together some quick tips for those who aren’t sure how they are supposed to navigate this weekend’s unholy cold weather.

Wear real shoes. Your flip flops will have to fend for themselves for a few days. They will be okay.

Flip Flops Left Behind

Socks! Wear them. Preferably with real shoes. Still a no on the flip flops.

Put the doors back on your Jeeps, FFS.

Consider pants. The extra fabric may feel a tad foreign at first, but you got to power through.

Stock your fridge now. Publix will be closed. Assume a record number of employees will call in dead. They’ve never been this cold before, and will believe they have passed.

You've likely never noticed it but there is a setting on your AC unit at home that makes it blow out warm air. Use it. Look for a little fire symbol or the word H E A T

There is also a similar function for the ac in your car… and turn off the seat AC feature.

Umbrella. Use an umbrella if you do venture outside. Not for rain, it will help you avoid head injuries caused by frozen iguanas falling from trees. Those suckers are heavy.

Happy Iguana

Bring all those orchids inside immediately. A couple hours in that kind of cold will kill them dead in an hour just like it will you if you don't stay inside your house.

That soft warm chewing gum that’s always in your car will now be harder than rock. Please don't break a tooth.

DON'T use your Evian face spritz outside. It will freeze to your face and you'll have little ice cycles hanging from your new lashes.

Wash your hair now. You’re not going to this weekend. Perhaps pick up some dry shampoo on your way to pick up the last Publix sub of the week.

Take deep breaths, you got this. No deep breaths on Saturday though. Your lungs aren’t used to air that cold. They will collapse… best hold your breath until Monday.

As you think about putting your home on the market,
a few hints:

You never get a second chance to make a first impression!

Become your buyer – If you weren’t moving to Paradise, would you buy your home at the price you are asking?

What do you see when you pull up to your home?

Does the first impression say: Wow- this home looks pristine?

As they walk through your home, can your buyer envision each room for his or her purpose? Is there plenty of room for their belongings? Empty every top shelf ( do this in every cabinet and shelf in the house). You have to pack any way, this will give you a head start. Whether you are dreaming of downtown or dockside, water view or your favorite fairway, our commitment is to help you discover your ultimate lifestyle.

So now you are thinking –

“How do I get the most dollars out of my home when I sell?”

A Few Hints

Your mission is to make your home show like a model.

Declutter-Declutter-Declutter!!

The most important thing to remember is: once you decide to put your home on the market, it becomes a house and not your home – (you have to pack anyway, so why not get started early)

Look at your house though buyer’s eyes.

What do you see when you pull up to your house and park your car? Curb appeal is so important. You only get one chance to make a first impression.

Does the front of your home have an inviting and welcoming allure? Are your bushes and other plant life trimmed and tidy? Arrange a few pots of colorful plants and frame the entry way to invite your perspective buyer into their new home.

As you enter, are you greeted with a neutral fresh scent? You want to appeal to all the senses for greatest effect.

Is your paint color neutral so others can visualize their furniture in the house? As you walk from room to room is everything neat and tidy?

Are your kitchen counters clear? Empty every top shelf, every cabinet, every closet, and anyplace that has a top shelf leave empty. After all – you want to give the illusion of more than enough storage for anyone to need.

Hope these few little hints help you get on the right track.
